Wizard of Oz on Ice

Here is what an "arena" show looks like.  They basically cover the ice rink with wood and build a stage on top.  Unfortunately, you can see the Act II drop hanging above the top of the proscenium.  Also, Glinda's bubble flies low in arenas.  Nothing like hearing the words "Look out! Duck!" being yelled at you from offstage as you are dancing.  Gotta love live theater!

It's Been A While

Once we got to Canada, I kind of pooped out on the blog. When we first arrived, the schedule was a bit hectic and internet connections were not always the best.  I will do my best to update more often.

Here are some pictures to give you an idea of what we have been looking at for the last month.  Although it is quite breathtaking...I'd rather be in Miami.  :)

 On the road from Calgary to Kelowna.

Casper, WY

I remember in elementary and middle school learning about the Great Plains, and the Rocky Mountains, and the Appalachian Mountains, and plateaus, and deserts, etc.  I pretty much have seen all of these things and I've only been on the road for two weeks.

Wyoming is beautiful.  So much open space that has not been over run buy strip malls or skyscrapers.  Just rolling hills and mountains as far as the eye can see.

We did our first "arena" performance tonight.  If you are from San Antonio, imagine Freeman Colosseum, hang a curtain down the middle, and put up a temporary stage.  It works surprisingly well, however, the dressing rooms were very, very, very far away from the stage.

We leave at 7am to head to Salt Lake City for three performances then back up north to Montana.

It's a good thing I'm not driving. Otherwise we would stop every mile to take a picture. Wyoming is beautiful.

Oz Museum in Wamego, KS

On our way to Colby, KS, we took a quick detour to visit the Oz Museum in Wamego, KS.  It was a little building with memorabilia from the books, movie, The Wiz, Wicked -- nothing spectacular.  Next door was a Mexican restaurant -- Toto's Tacos.  I had the Tinman Black Bean burrito for lunch.
